Ad placement specs against what generators output

Aspect ratio: the spec a re-encode cannot fix

Aspect ratio is stated tightly by the surfaces that accept advertising and skipped by every pricing page in this register. TikTok names three shapes with a pixel floor under each; on the generator side, shape appears on nine of 15 rows and on none of the four priced pages but one. As of 2026-10-25.

Where shape is decided and where it is only recordedShape is fixed when a shot is staged, not when a file is exported. The surface names a ratio, the vendor page usually says nothing, the export can crop, and only the staging decides whether the subject is still in frame once it has been cropped.NamedSurface names a ratioSometimes with a minimum pixel size under each optionVendor pageMostly silent: shape is not a priced stepExport cropsCheap, and limited to what was generatedStaging decidesWhether the subject survives the tightest cropWhere the real decision sits

Inclusion rule. Every page in this register that names a shape for an ad or for generated output, plus the pages that name none, which keep their row and say so. A shape visible in a sample clip is not a stated shape and does not fill a cell; neither is one inferred from a resolution. Order. Placement rows first, then generator rows alphabetically.

1What the column records

The cell holds the shapes a page names, in that page's own wording, and nothing read off a demonstration reel. TikTok names vertical, horizontal and square with a minimum pixel size attached to each. Google names a shape for a single format: the Masthead is widescreen or 16:9, and the rest of its formats page is about time rather than shape.

On the generator side the cell fills or empties according to which kind of page was read. Documentation names shapes freely: seven values on Hedra and on Grok Imagine, six on MiniMax and Wan 3.0, two on Google Veo and HeyGen. Priced pages barely mention them, and SceneMixer’s 16:9 by default with 9:16 available is the only such statement this register has sourced from one. Two rows give a pixel pair instead of a ratio and two give a resolution and no shape at all.

Four of those wordings carry instructions rather than options. MiniMax states that the ratio is required for text-to-video and cannot be adaptive; Wan 3.0 states that adaptive is the default; Grok Imagine and Google Veo both name 16:9 as theirs. A campaign for a vertical placement reads those four rows very differently from a list of available shapes.

2Why one side documents shape and the other does not

Vendors document what they charge for. Resolution is a priced step on most of the tools tracked here, so it appears on the page a buyer already has open. Shape costs the same whichever way round the frame comes out, so on a pricing page it drifts into a help article, a changelog, or nowhere at all — and in an API reference, where nothing is being sold, it reappears as a parameter with a list of legal values and a default.

Surfaces have the reverse incentive. A vertical slot cannot show a widescreen file without boxing it, and boxing is visible to every viewer, so shape is stated early and stated firmly, sometimes with a pixel floor bolted to each option in case anyone reads the ratio as an invitation to upload something tiny.

3What this column cannot settle

A ratio is not a crop. A widescreen master contains a vertical column only if the subject was staged to stay inside it, and the cell records the shape a tool emits rather than whether the framing survives being cut down to a different one. That survival is decided at the brief, by whoever writes the blocking, and it costs nothing to decide there.

An empty cell is not a refusal either. It means the page consulted does not name a shape, which is a gap in published material rather than a property of the product. Filling it with a plausible guess would hand this sheet a claim that no page it cites actually makes.

4One page per cell in this column

  • SceneMixer — Sixteen by nine by default with nine by sixteen available.
  • Google Veo — Sixteen by nine as the default and nine by sixteen as the alternative, on a page whose resolution and length columns are coupled to each other.
  • MiniMax — Six ratios from twenty-one by nine to nine by sixteen, required for text-to-video and never adaptive.
  • Wan 3.0 — Adaptive is the default, followed by twenty-one by nine through nine by sixteen.
  • PixVerse — Sixteen by nine through twenty-one by nine, eight values in all on v6 and c1.
  • Grok Imagine — One by one through two by three, seven values with sixteen by nine as the default.
  • HeyGen — Sixteen by nine or nine by sixteen, on a page that otherwise lets width and height run anywhere between 128 and 4,096 pixels.
  • Hedra — One by one through twenty-one by nine, and nine by twenty-one as well, which is a vertical ultrawide shape no other page here publishes.
  • Runway — Seven pixel pairs across landscape, portrait and square.
  • Amazon Nova Reel — The guide prints 1280x720 and addresses aspect ratio nowhere, so this register leaves the cell hollow rather than converting the pixels into a ratio.
  • TikTok — Vertical from 540x960, horizontal from 960x540 and square from 640x640.

A cell earns a page when the page it was read from says something specific about how the figure is written, or when a silence in this column is unusual among the entries around it. Cells that are merely empty stay as marked rows in the table above.
