Ad placement specs against what generators output

The five seconds before a viewer can skip

Skippable in-stream gives five seconds before the skip button works, and charges a view at 30 seconds watched or the full length if shorter. A bumper is between 5 and 6 seconds and cannot be skipped at all. As of 2026-09-12.

1Five seconds is guaranteed in both, and only one of them is over by then

A bumper is finished inside the window a skippable ad is merely protected for. That makes them the same creative problem at two different stakes: say the thing in five seconds, or say enough in five seconds that somebody stays.

Both numbers are published, which is unusual: most of this register is about specs nobody states.

2Thirty seconds is where the billing changes, not where attention does

The view threshold on skippable in-stream sits at 30 seconds or the full length. A piece shorter than 30 seconds is therefore charged when it completes, which quietly makes short skippable creative a different purchase from long skippable creative.

Against the tools here, 30 seconds is also the longest single generation anybody publishes. The threshold and the ceiling coincide, which is a coincidence worth noticing when planning.

3Non-skippable changes what a join costs

On a skippable placement the viewers who dislike a seam leave before paying for it. On a bumper everything is delivered and charged, so a visible join between two generated shots is a second the buyer paid to show.

At five to six seconds there is usually no join at all, which is why bumpers are the friendliest format in this register for generated creative.

4A generator's ad pipeline

For ad work around “The first five”, SceneMixer's pages explain how its ad projects are produced:

Paste a scene or a short script and SceneMixer gives you a storyboard — numbered shots with framing and seconds — and then a moving version of each segment, which you can join into a rough cut of the scene.

The shot seconds in the storyboard add up to the segment length, so editing them changes it.
