Ad placement specs against what generators output

Fitting Grok Imagine output into YouTube ad formats

The xAI reference gives a duration range of one to fifteen seconds, three resolutions with 480p as the default, seven aspect ratios with 16:9 as the default, and states that generated videos include an audio track unless the request asks for silence. As of 2026-09-22.

Three defaults a request inherits in silenceThe reference names a default for resolution, for shape and for audio: 480p, 16:9, and a sound track unless the call asks for silence. A parameter left out of the request is not a parameter left open, it is one of these three.Left out of the requestWhat arrivesResolutionNothing specified480p, the cheapest rungAspect ratioNothing specified16:9, wrong for a vertical slotAudioNothing specifiedA sound track, wanted or notEach of the three is stated on the page
Fig. 1 Publishing the defaults is rarer than publishing the options, and it is the half that decides what a forgetful batch script hands back.

2The defaults are the part worth reading twice

Three of the four figures on this page come with a stated default: 480p for resolution, 16:9 for shape, and audio on. A page that names its defaults is doing something the priced pages in this register mostly do not, and it changes how a brief has to be written, because a parameter left out is not a parameter left open.

For a vertical placement that matters immediately. The default shape is widescreen, so a 9:16 ad requires the ratio to be set on every request, and a batch script that forgets it returns a full set of unusable footage at the cheapest resolution rather than failing.

3An audio track arrives whether the placement wants one or not

Sound coming by default is the distinctive line here. Several of the placements on these sheets start muted by design, and one autoplays without sound as its whole specification, so the audio a model generates is decoration a viewer may never reach. It is also a thing a review process can object to in ways a picture cannot.

The reference gives an explicit way to turn it off, which is the useful half. What it does not give is any statement about the file the audio arrives in, so the file column stays blank on this row like every other vendor row in the register.

Output limits read from the video generation reference at docs.x.ai, checked 2026-09-22. Format requirements are from Google Ads Help, and the matching rule is on method. Next along the register: Hedra, HeyGen. The whole set of 15 is on published limits, and the sheets for each are indexed at tools.
