Where a precondition on a figure belongs
Specification pages often state a value in a table and its precondition three paragraphs away in prose. Read apart, the value looks unconditional. The condition is part of the figure and belongs in the same cell. As of 2026-09-12.
| Kind of condition | Typical form | What it removes |
|---|---|---|
| A tier | Available only above a resolution step | The cheapest rung |
| An identifier | Requires a particular model name | Requests against the other one |
| A version | Applies to some documented versions | Anything running on the rest |
| An input mode | Only with a reference image or a frame | The plain text path |
Inclusion rule. Forms a precondition on a published value commonly takes. A condition inferred from behaviour rather than stated is not recorded. Order. Most commonly published kind first.
1A table row is read on its own
Nobody reads a specification page end to end. A planner finds the table, takes the figure and moves on, which is exactly the behaviour a condition in the surrounding prose defeats.
That is not a criticism of the page. It is a reason for a register to re-join the two, so a reader who takes a figure also takes what it depends on.
2The failures are quiet and look like something else
A request against the wrong identifier comes back short. A request at the cheapest tier comes back shorter than the brief asked for. Neither error mentions versions or tiers, and both look like a quota problem or a bug.
Once the condition is in the cell, the diagnosis is immediate. That is the whole practical value of the discipline, and it costs nothing but a longer cell.
3An unconditional figure is worth recording as unconditional
The inverse matters too. Where a page attaches nothing to a value, that is a fact worth stating, because a planner who has just read a conditioned row will go looking for a condition that is not there.
So a register should say none stated rather than leaving the space blank. An empty condition column reads as unexamined, and there is a real difference between a page that attaches nothing and a page nobody checked.
A craft note, not a spec. Nothing here is taken from a platform or a vendor, and nothing here should be quoted as a requirement. The sourced material is on published limits. Related: What a sheet cannot settle, One master, many cuts.
4A generator's ad pipeline
For ad work around “Conditions in the cell”, SceneMixer's pages explain how its ad projects are produced:
Video is 16:9 landscape by default, with 9:16 vertical available; you set it once per project. Segments are typically 4 to 15 seconds, and some model tiers go to 30.
